Jessica Martin's Research Portfolio

Introduction

In this project, my main goal was to find out the opinions of three types of photographers’ about the creative eye.  I wanted to know if they felt that the creative could be taught in the classroom, or if it was something you had to be born with, while at the same time capturing  the life history of the three photographers.  I decided to interview Marion Hutchison, who was a professional photographer in the nineties, B.J. Bumgarner, who has been a hobbyist photographer for about 8 years now, and Rebecca Rainsberger, a junior photography major at Texas A&M University – Commerce.  What I found was the complete opposite of what I expected to find.  Rather than the student believing that the creative eye could be taught, she believed that you had to be born with the creative gene. The hobbyist I interviewed believed that you could be taught the creative eye, when I thought that they would feel you had to have it.  It was interesting to find my research completely contradict my original thoughts on the project.
